There’s too many slow sites on the web. Slow websites, blogs and online magazines, slow forums, slow online games, slow search systems, slow forms, slow online stores… you name it.
This needs to change. Now!
Okay okay, not that fast. But really, the end goal of Speedemy is to be the place you come to learn how you can make your system faster. It’s just that it happens to be very young at this stage, but it will mature, I promise!
Who am I to talk about speed? Well, I’ve been involved with systems performance optimization for the last 12 years since 2003. And I’ve spent last 9 of them at Percona – company that has Performance Consulting embedded in its name.
For the first three years of my performance consultant career, I’ve been the key person behind the architecture of four fastest growing websites in Lithuania at that time – autoplius.lt, klase.lt, pazintys.lt, supermama.lt as well as our super advanced mail cluster that served tens of thousands of spam filtered mailboxes.
Then in 2006, as I was moving to Paris, I have joined Percona founders Peter and Vadim (known as “The MySQLPerformanceBlog guys” back then) as their first full time performance consultant. I’ve been working there ever since – for 9 years straight! First as a consultant, then as a principal consultant and finally as an architect, until I decided it’s about time for me to not just work with companies 1-on-1, but also share all this know-how I have acquired during these last 12 year.
If you’re curious what exactly I was doing at Percona, here’s just a few customers I have worked with that I can disclose:
- Boardreader – the forums search engine with terabytes of searchable text data
- BBC – I’ve been involved in building their users authentication system
- EngineYard – for few years I’ve been regularly designing and optimizing databases for their fastest growing customers
- KGB.com – no, it’s not what you think!
- EstanteVirtual – a second-hand book market leader in Brazil, I’ve helped them build their search system.
And over a hundred of other small and Fortune-500-sized companies I have to keep secret.
Here’s just a few of the unsolicited praises I have received from the customers I have worked with:
For EstanteVirtual CEO André Garcia, the personal relationship with Percona, and Aurimas in particular, is a delight. “I have a dedicated consultant who not only understands my setup, but he understands my business. I have to translate some Portuguese words for him once in a while, but that is part of the fun! Because he knows both where I want to get and what I care for, he knows exactly what I need before I ask! It’s fantastic.”

Aurimas has been a pleasure to work with.
Justin Bonanno, Consultant at The Bonanno Group Digital Marketing
Aurimas, it was a pleasure to work with an expert and get a better understanding of where we are with our database. I appreciated how thoroughly you were able to analyze our system in such a short time.
Seth Stone, Senior Developer at Pine Cove
Aurimas, <..> also, I wanted to take a moment here to let you know how thrilled I have been with your work over the past year. You have done a really great job understanding my needs and quickly finding solutions to my problems. I have the highest level of confidence in the quality of your work and its a great relief for me to have someone as talented and knowledgeable as you helping me out when issues arrive with my server.

Just finished a few weeks project with this talented guy. We are so happy with the results of the project. Aurimas perfectly handled every mysql issue we had with patience and kindness. Was worth any penny! Hope to work with him again in the future with a much bigger challenges! For us he is 5 stars, 100% professional.Guy Saar, CTO at FXP.co.il
